Dr. Dean J. Mikami earned his medical degree from the University of Kansas School of Medicine. He completed his general surgery training and a fellowship in minimally invasive surgery at Ohio State University before joining the faculty at Ohio State from 2004-2016. He returned home to be Chief of Surgery for the John A. Burns School of Medicine. He is one of the pioneers in endoluminal bariatric surgery and specializes in complex abdominal wall repair, surgical endoscopy, and foregut surgery. Dr. Mikami has trained thousands of surgeons throughout the world, has been an invited lecturer numerous of times locally, nationally and internationally, and has been involved in multiple surgical research projects. Dr. Mikami joined Hawaii University Surgeons for his clinical practice in general surgery and minimally invasive general surgery in the treatment of gall bladder pathology, disorders of the stomach at Queen’s Medical Center and Queen’s West.
